I am a little behind on this blog already but here is one of the emails Kelly sent to the family.:) She is doing good and learning LOTS of Spanish...miss you Kell!!!!
I have less time then usual, lo siento. This week was pretty good, pretty typical. I can't believe I still have seven more weeks here. Weeks are going by much faster but the days are still muy larrggooooo. I feel overwhelmed with everything I need to learn. But it's just the perfectionist side of me coming out cause I feel like I need to be fluent in Espanol and have every scripture memorized in PMG and I know I am incapable of it, but I clearly love to stress myself out for no reason. We had to teach three 45 min lessons in a row Friday (all in Spanish) and my brain was fried. It's really funny cause I always felt super awkward doing role plays in mission prep, but it's so typical now we have to go up to random people every day and just start talking in Spanish to them regardless of their language cause our districto upped our contact goals. I feel kind of like it's partially acting school. And some of the people we teach don't know any English and they set up the rooms to be like a real house (it's kind of funny)- we have to like knock on the door, do a contact, come back later and sit in their "house". And now our investigators start having questions which is hard for me cause I have to feel prepared but you never know what their doubts are going to be. Isss goo practice though.
Every thing was made better at conference this weekend. I really have never been so excited for conference in my life!! And it really was so inspiring. All of us girls held a meeting after and all of us went to conference with a different question in mind and all of us came back with an answer. And we all thought the theme was something different. It just goes to show how the Spirit communicates with each of us differently according to our needs. The best part was our devotional with this Tongan that played football for Mesa High and now is a Sports Journalist man (what are they called?) and ugh I wish I had time to tell you everything about it, because my life was changed by this devotional! He showed us news clips where he would somehow try to add in subliminal messages about mormons and they were hilarious. He'd be giving a Sports update and have missionaries singing Called to Serve in the backgroun over and over. He said after the Sammy Sosa shook the hand of every missionary cause he used to play baseball with the missionaries in the Dominican when he was a kid. PRESSHHH. And the best was the story of one of his converts and it's super intense but no tengo tiempo. He and his whole family and their kids and their grnadkids all came and it just made me remember once again why I am here. When I start to feel down on myself (which happens ALOT) cause I am fat cause the food here is so good, I just have to remember that it's not about me and everything works out so much better. Especially when we just got this HUGE abundance of missionaries from Japan who JUST lost their families and friends and now they are out serving. Or my friend who got Cancer and got reassigned stateside and is so faithful. Pray for Sister Beus.. remember my friend going to Africa? She had to go home cause they can't find out what's wrong with her. So I have nothing to complain about. All my favorite and best friends here are from other countries. So I have been learning a bit of several languages.
I'm out of time but I hope all of you are well! Escribime? Familia? Where are you?
